Ending Parking Mandates

One of Strong Towns’ core missions is to eliminate mandatory parking minimums and subsidies in the US. These laws remove agency from homeowners, developers, and business owners to right-size their parking, and they frequently require burdensome and excessive amounts of land and money to be spent on parking.

Strategy

  • Reducing parking minimums has momentum today in Colorado following the passage of HB24-1304, a bill that removes parking minimums from areas in the vicinity of frequent transit. We want to continue to build upon that success and encourage cities to further implement financially sound and productive land-use decisions.

Current Initiatives

  • At Strong Towns Denver, we are focused on removing all parking minimums in Denver.
  • We are also engaging with municipalities in the metro area to reduce or remove parking minimums in the whole metro area.
